Preamble
Five years ago, we did an epic motocycle trip to Utah. http://utahonmotorcycles.blogspot.ca/ That remains one of our all-time favorite trips as it was stunningly beautiful and a fun group for riding. Our friends Cathy and Bob, who live in Thunder Bay, drove to Kanab with Bob's bike in tow and their friends John and Sheila from Ottawa and we met them after parking the truck in Idaho Falls and riding the rest of the way to Kanab.
Since that trip, Bob and Cathy have been hammering us to come out and do the highly-regarded circle tour around Lake Superior. Last summer, good friends and neighbours of ours Holly and Rod drove to Newfoundland and their pictures from the north side of Lake Superior were quite inspiring and, let's face it, with all of us nearing or post "retirement age"- it occurred to us we need to get this trip done.
So in a way, this trip has been five years in the making, but I have pretty much done nothing to contribute to the organization of the trip other than to phone Bob and say "we're on the way!" I figured it is Bob's territory and he will know the area so he probably knows his way around. It also puts a burden on him to make all the decisions and sweat it out when something isn't working to plan. I know the feeling because that is usually my role but this year, all my motorcycling trips have been "hands off" for planning because we did an organized tour in Mexico, Phil organized the FSR http://kootenayfsr.blogspot.ca/ trip in June and now Bob. This makes it pretty much the easiest season of motorcycle touring that I have ever had. At least, as far as the planning goes. Sorry Bob, I'll make it up to you on the trip.
